As we’re still hanging around WA while we finish up a few things, we thought we’d get in a little practice today hooking up the jeep tow bar and hitch and actually towing. We had only towed a few miles home (a very loose term for a while) from getting the air brake system installed and wanted to make sure there weren’t any issues before beginning our journey. Everything went well and while visiting the office I hooked up some dual monitors for the sales team. While I’m there I also like to spend a few minutes listening to the servers hum and making sure all the drive lights are that pretty neon green color.
Last night we confirmed that The Enterprise is watertight. I assumed so but we all know about that! Monsoon-like rains pelted us for hours and made me wonder whether an ark would have been a better idea. In addition, high winds shook us around a bit and left a lot of Western WA without power. As I laid in bed listening to the water dumping on us as if we had parked under Niagara Falls, I thought about how this was similar to a lot of our tent camping trips where I’d wake up in a puddle of water (rain water people!). If you know me, you know Mother Nature and I have our differences. But listening to a storm raging and knowing we have everything with us to deal with the elements while being out in them (kind of) was a good feeling.
We’ve been living in the rig for six weeks now and I still haven’t gotten used to the fact that our necessary belonging are with us! As we drove to the office I freaked out for a second because I thought I had left my keys at home. Well I did, but home was on the way to the office with me! And last weekend we ‘camped’ at some friend’s house and I had to think about where I was when I woke up. It’s just so different than how we’ve lived until now, but so far we like it!
On the way home, Captain Tami was the pilot and my job was to relax, put my feet up, and tell her when she was doing things wrong. Here’s a little video of that and hopefully Tami will forgive me for posting (and for telling her she’s driving too far to the right). When driving your house one might argue that you’re not really leaving even if you go somewhere, so spending a bunch of time getting ready seems much more optional.
Finally, this week will be Tami’s last day at her office after 17 years. It will be a day to celebrate, but also to say some first goodbyes to close friends. As with most good things in life, there are always some hardship involved.
